The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), through NER & SARDP-NE, Regional Office Guwahati and NH Meghalaya PWD–Shillong, has invited a tender for one-time improvement of the Shillong–Jowai Road. This project covers the stretch from Km 54.200 to Km 69.200, totaling 15 km in the State of Meghalaya. This road serves as an important connection for inter-district travel, trade, tourism and daily transportation, making its upgradation essential for safer and more efficient mobility.
The work includes upgrading the pavement structure, improving road geometry and enhancing driving comfort for commuters and transport vehicles. A major component of the project is the construction of pucca side drains along with footpaths, which will help improve pedestrian safety and ensure efficient stormwater management, reducing erosion and waterlogging risks.
This improvement effort aims to extend the road’s service life while reducing frequent maintenance interventions caused by heavy rainfall and hilly terrain challenges. The upgraded corridor is expected to support better economic activity, tourist movement and improved connectivity between Shillong, Jowai and surrounding regions.
The financial bid opened on 29 October 2025, with M/S Tanor Engineering quoting the lowest value. The total project cost is ₹145,31,01,00.
