The Highways Department – Metro Wing, under the CMDP Circle, has invited a tender for a crucial urban infrastructure project aimed at easing congestion and enhancing railway crossing safety. The project involves the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) in lieu of Level Crossing (LC) No. 32, situated between Tambaram and Vandalur railway stations, near Perungalathur in Chennai. This tender pertains specifically to Balance Work – Part II, highlighting the continuation of a previously initiated urban mobility project.
The ROB project is expected to significantly reduce traffic delays and enhance commuter safety by replacing a frequently congested level crossing with a dedicated bridge. Located in a high-traffic suburban corridor, the project will benefit thousands of daily commuters and contribute to Chennai’s long-term urban transport planning goals.
The financial bid for the project was opened on 7th May 2025, attracting participation from multiple infrastructure firms. The competition reflects the project’s importance in addressing one of the region’s key transportation bottlenecks.
Upon evaluation, Babuji Civil Construction emerged as the lowest bidder, making them eligible for executing the remaining portion of this ROB project. The project value is ₹29,75,36,443, reflecting a strategic public investment to modernize and streamline suburban transport infrastructure.
