The Highways Department – Metro Wing, CMDP Circle has floated a significant tender for the formation of Tambaram Eastern Bye-Pass Road, an essential infrastructure project aimed at decongesting traffic and enhancing regional mobility in Chennai’s suburban corridors. This bypass is designed to branch from Km 17/4 of the Marmalong Bridge – Irumbuliyur Road, connecting Rajakilpakkam via Agaramthen Road towards Perungalathur, specifically from Km 8/080 to Km 8/775.
This road development is a critical part of Chennai’s metropolitan road planning, intended to improve traffic distribution between the eastern suburbs and major national highways. The new bypass will significantly reduce travel time for daily commuters while also supporting commercial and logistics activities around southern Chennai.
The financial bid for the tender was officially opened on 7th May 2025, attracting bids from several qualified contractors. This reflects strong industry interest in the project due to its urban significance and connectivity impact.
Following the bid evaluation, Babuji Civil Construction was announced as the lowest bidder, thereby securing the contract for this urban infrastructure enhancement. The total estimated project value is ₹21,93,82,936, showcasing a considerable government investment towards expanding Chennai’s road infrastructure network.
