The Chief Engineer, Gorakhpur Zone, PWD Uttar Pradesh, along with the Gorakhpur Circle, PWD Gorakhpur, has initiated a significant road infrastructure tender for the widening and strengthening of the Sports College Chauraha to Jhungia Chungi to Fertilizer Road via Karim Nagar Chauraha. This development forms a part of the planned improvements for the financial year 2024–25 in Gorakhpur district.
This stretch is a critical urban connector, linking major residential and institutional areas with industrial zones. Upgrading it to a 4-lane configuration will help decongest traffic, improve transport efficiency, and ensure safer commuting for both passenger and freight movement within the city.
The financial bid for the project was officially opened on 23rd May 2025, and saw active participation from several infrastructure firms. After a competitive evaluation process, Shakuntala Singh emerged as the lowest bidder, qualifying to undertake the execution of the project.
With a project value of ₹26,98,19,559, this initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on improving urban road infrastructure, boosting regional development, and facilitating smoother traffic flow in one of eastern Uttar Pradesh’s key urban centers.
