K. Rajagopalan and Co. Got A Project:Construction of Tail end Regulator across Nandalar river

The Water Resources Department (WRD) under the Chief Engineer, Trichy Region, and Superintending Engineer, Lower Cauvery Basin Circle, Thanjavur, has floated a critical infrastructure tender for flood control and environmental protection in the coastal district of Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu. The project involves the construction of a tail-end regulator across the Nandalar River at LS 52.600 km, strategically located in Chandrirappadi Village, Tharangambadi Taluk.
This regulator aims to prevent sea water intrusion into the inland irrigation system—a growing concern in delta regions due to rising sea levels and tidal surges. The structure will help maintain freshwater quality and protect agricultural lands, drinking water sources, and ecosystems from salinization.
The financial bid for this coastal protection work was officially opened on 2nd May 2025, with several reputed firms participating in the competitive bidding process. This indicates the project’s significance in addressing long-term sustainability and water security in the Cauvery Delta region.
After evaluation, K. Rajagopalan and Co. was declared the lowest bidder, qualifying for the execution of the work. The total value of the project is ₹42,93,13,554.2, reflecting a significant investment in environmental resilience and water infrastructure by the Tamil Nadu government.
